1 Timothy 6

1 – 2

Christians who are under the yoke of slaves should respect their masters so that our teaching in the name of God is not spoken against. If they have Christian masters they should also respect them because they are brothers in the faith. In fact, they should serve them even better because they are helping someone who has the same faith and love that they have. Teach and preach these things.

One of the painful things in life is to go to a job that you hate every day. Ask God to help you make a list of all the things to be grateful for about your job. You can pay the bills. If you are careful with the money, you can buy your family some of the things that they have always wanted. If you are looking for another job can use this one to build a good reputation.

3 – 4

If anyone has a different teaching and does not follow healthy words which we build on the words of our Lord Jesus Christ which lead to Christlike living, then he is proud and does not understand what he is talking about but has an unhealthy interest in questions and wars about words. Out of this comes arguments and evil words and evil thoughts.

We completely build what we believe on the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who do not agree with this will say that we can build what we believe on having the same church faith statements.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. Matthew 24:35

The words that I speak to you, they are Spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7

5. This creates continuing bad feelings between men of confused minds who do not have the truth and who think that godliness is a way to make money.

False religions always end up asking for money, as if God needed your money.

If I were hungry, I would not tell you,for the world and its fullness are Mine. Psalm 50:12

Because of their greed they will try to buy you and then sell you. 2 Peter 2:3

6 – 8

The way to true profit is to live the way God wants you to live and to be happy with what you have. We brought nothing with us when we came into the world and we can be sure we will take nothing with us when we leave it. It should be enough for us have something to eat and some clothes to cover ourselves with.

Being happy with what you have is not something that comes to you immediately. It is something that has to be learned.

I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. Philippians 4:11

9. Men who set their hearts on getting a lot of money are opening themselves up to temptation. They will fall into a trap and open the door to all kinds of foolish and wicked things that they think they want. These things will completely destroy them.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is most likely not true. Every moneymaking idea is about man's wisdom. Why not ask for God's wisdom if you need money?

It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it. Proverbs 10:22

But he who runs quickly to be rich will not go unpunished. Proverbs 28:20

But when the young man heard this statement, he went away very sad; for he was one who owned much property. Matthew 19:22

10. Loving money lead you into all kinds of evil. Some who have chased after it have wandered away from the faith and speared themselves with many sorrows.

Some people say that money is good but loving money is wrong. The Bible says that money is dirty. It is like a drug that will take you by surprise if you are not alert.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? Luke 16:11

But Peter said to him, “May your silver be destroyed with you, because you thought you could get the gift of God with money! Acts 8:20

See Titus 1:7, 11.

11. But you are a man of God, so keep on staying away from such things. Set your heart on honesty, dedication to God, faithfulness, love, patience and gentleness.

God says to mature Christians, "Others may, but you cannot."

12. Keep on fighting the battle of faith! Keep holding on to the eternal life that you were called to, and which you gave a strong testimony about in front of many witnesses.

Paul is most likely talking about the day when Timothy was ordained in the ministry. On that day Timothy gave a strong testimony about what he believed to the elders.

See 1 Timothy 4:14

13 – 14

I am giving you assignment in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and in the sight of Jesus, who witnessed the truth to Pontius Pilate without fear.

Your assignment is to keep yourself clean so that no one can accuse you as we wait for the return of Christ.

We all have the same assignment, to keep our lives clean by working closely with the Lord.

Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. John 15:3

15 – 16

He will return in his own time. He is blessed and controls all things. He is the King of Kings and the Master of all Masters. He is the only source of eternal life. There is nothing like the light that He lives in. He is the one whom no man has ever seen, or is able to see. To Him be all honor and power forever. Amen!

No one has ever seen God; only the Son, who is at the Father’s side, has made Him known. John 1:18

17. Tell those who are rich in this world not to look down on others or to be confident about their money but to be confident in the living God, who generously gives us everything we need.

We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer. Proverbs 16:1

18. Tell them to do good to others and to be rich In generosity, ready to give to others the things they need.

God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

19. Their confidence should be in the life to come, so they can take a hold of that which is real life.

People who think too much about money need to find out about the rich life they can have when they look for ways to be a blessing to others instead of only blessing themselves.

20 – 21

Oh Timothy! Guard the things that that you have been trusted with. Avoid mixing with the ideas of the world, and it is empty talk, and self-defeating arguments about what is falsely called knowledge. Some who have followed these things have gone away from the faith. Grace be with you!

There is an evil spirit in the world which uses its power to hide the truth. A good example would be the history of fake fossils that have been used to "prove" evolution.

There is a lot of fake science in the world today. Some scientists have had the courage to speak up about it and are immediately fired from their jobs.
